Thousand Guinas Logo

In 1810, a world record Thousand Guineas was paid for a Shorthorn Bull, Comet. This bull went on to be a key influencer of the modern Shorthorn breed that is celebrated for its superb eating qualities.

Shorthorn "type" cattle were amongst the 5 head imported on the First Fleet in 1787, and by 1803 majority of the 2450 cattle in Australia were Shorthorns.

By 1890, 50% of the temperate cattle in Australia were Shorthorns, and 100% of the cattle in northern Australia were shorthorns - a true sign of the breed's adaptability to varying environments. Shorthorns truly are "The Breed That Built Australia".
